Motherland was born from the makers of Mimoun Real Estate & Relocation in Spain. Since the pandemic, people have been saying no to stress and choosing a lifestyle where they can work remotely from beautiful destinations with a higher quality of life. They’re looking for comforts such as a slower pace, lower cost of living, and more family time. The Motherland name draws from a return to these old world values. Their visual brand identity was inspired by the migration of Portugal’s national bird, Andorinha, a symbol of home.

Project Brief

  • Always start with the brand story. In this case, owners Penelope and Daniel found themselves with an empty nest, and ready to rebuild their home. The mother, the nest, the migration and a return to the land of Daniel’s roots were the initial inspiration for the name and logo. Hand in Hand, from Home to Home tells the story of how they guide their clients through a challenging but rewarding transition to their new life in the old world.

  • Once we uncovered the story behind the brand, we looked at the journey Motherland’s ideal clients would take from the US to Portugal, physically, financially, emotionally. Addressing the needs of their clients in their uniquely poetic and elegant voice, the language and imagery for the website was created to bring a sense of rootedness, ease, richness of experience, and calm.

  • Customizing Squarespace’s 7.1 Myhra template, we created this website leaving space for an ample portfolio of curated properties and a library of value-based content could be easily added by the Motherland “Family”.

    “Choose Your Own Adventure” speaks to their 6 client personas, down to which towns to live in and what they can expect to find. In “Relocate”, all the services offered by Motherland are clearly defined, in a logical step-by-step order.

    “About” is where we tell Motherland’s story, a critical element in building trust and an authentic connection with their audience, who can see for themselves that this family is no stranger to relocation.
